It’s the most STRESSFUL time of the year!

But it doesn’t have to be….. With a little planning you can totally do this!

Hey friends! Happy Thursday!   How’s your week going?  Are you working on your list of a thousand things to be done before the holiday AND…. freaking out about how you are going to get it all done?  I am happy to report you are not alone. This time of year is stressful for everyone with #allthethings that need to get done.   It’s hard for many people to keep up with healthy eating and getting exercise, in addition to all the things they need to get done.  You can still get in your workouts and eat healthy if you plan ahead.  Today I am sharing some tips on how to stay sane during the holiday season.

SLEEP –   Yes, I know this is hard but try to average 7-8 hours a night.  It will help you mentally and physically this time of year if you are well rested.  A few tips to prepare for bed to make sure you get those 7-8 hours:   Try putting all the electronics down an hour before bed, read a book,  take a bath, have a cup of tea – caffeine free of course.  I have been using essential oils before bed.  Essential oils are amazing.  I dab Lavender on my wrists and diffuse it in my bedroom at night to help me fall asleep.

DRINK WATER –  Water is a must everyday! With all the holiday foods, sweets, and alcohol you will want to be well hydrated. Every day I fill 2 yetis with water.  I keep one in my office and one in the kitchen so I always have water nearby.  I fill it several times a day.    Always drink water before you are thirsty so you are well hydrated.

EXERCISE –  You all know how passionate I am about fitness.  It’s my JAM for overall well-being.  Not only will it keep your blood pumping, it will keep your stress level down, and you will feel amazing.  You don’t have to go a gym.  You can go for a walk, run, or use an exercise app. I talked about finding time for fitness in this post Finding time for Fitness   It’s amazing what 15 minutes of exercise can do to make you feel so much better!

Take a TIMEOUT – For YOU!  I know this is hard for many.  There is so.much.going.on this time of year but if you can take even 15 minutes to do something for you (in addition to exercise) it will make a world of difference.  Some ideas – take a bath, read a book, go for a walk, walk the dog (your dog with thank you too!) , get your nails done, get a massage, or a facial.  Just do something for you!

EAT RIGHT – This is tough one right now with the holidays. There are so many temptations that can de-rail healthy eating and make you feel sluggish and tired.  I often hear ‘I am going to wait until January’!  Why???  Why de-rail the entire month of December?  Keep up with your healthy eating by meal planning.  Part of that meal planning should be for holiday parties.   A few meals here and there during the holidays are fine but completely going off plan will make you feel like crap and no one wants to feel like that.   Keep healthy snacks nearby at work, in your car etc. so you don’t reach for that candy, and other non-healthy snacks. I keep nuts and protein bars handy.   When building your plate start with protein and veggies first.  Have a holiday party to attend?  Eat a small meal before heading out so you won’t be starving which leads to bad choices.

Just remember…  You don’t have to do it all! I hope these 5 things help you stay a little more sane and healthier this holiday season as they do for me!  What other tips do you have to stay sane?  I’d love to hear from you!
